Meet the freestone crew

ALEX Gill

Owner

Alex Gill is a co-owner and project manager at Freestone Construction, managing residential projects from early planning through to completion. He specializes in complex builds, renovations, and additions, bringing structure and clarity to projects that require careful coordination and problem solving.

Alex holds a Bachelor of Arts in Economics from the University of Victoria and brings over 13 years of experience in residential and commercial construction, including 9 years of hands-on site experience. Since relocating to Fernie in 2008, he has developed a strong understanding of local permitting, site conditions, and the realities of building in a mountain environment.

He leads the preconstruction process, coordinating design, consultants, and detailed budget development to align scope, drawings, and costs early. This approach reduces uncertainty, limits costly changes during construction, and creates a more predictable, streamlined building process.

Outside of construction, Alex is a certified ACMG Ski Guide, reflecting a long-standing connection to the mountains and the environment in which he lives and works..

Jack Norris

Owner

Here’s a more experience-forward version that leads with his credentials and background:

Jack is a journeyman carpenter with over 22 years of experience in the trade and has been a licensed residential builder for the past four. He has worked across all stages of construction, building from the ground up and developing a strong foundation in both structural work and finishing.

His approach is rooted in craftsmanship and attention to detail, with a focus on doing things properly and building work that lasts. This has shaped how he operates on site and the standard he brings to every project.

Jack started Freestone to meet the need for a professional, year-round renovation company in Fernie. As the company grew, so did the scope of work, expanding into full custom homes and larger scale residential projects.

He has called Fernie home for over 15 years after originally arriving for a single ski season. Outside of work, he spends his time in the mountains, from snowboarding in the winter to running and mountain biking in the summer.
